The Quesada Wine Club

A new wine club for the residents of Ciudad Quesada is proving very popular with it’s members.

The brainchild of a group of friends, the Quesada Wine Club is enjoying success, and is looking for more like-minded people from the Quesada area to join their group. They say:

“We are simply a group of amateur, private individuals who enjoy good wines in pleasant company. We have no vested interest in any business connected with the wine trade, but would like to promote the enjoyment of wine.

We feel that it is a means whereby people like us can experience good quality wines that they might otherwise be unable to afford, and gain enjoyment from it. We do adhere to the “Drink Sense” guidelines, so it is not a booze-up, simply appreciation of fine wines.

The wine club meets on the third Wednesday of each month, with a break in July and August due to the numbers of residents who disappear for the summer.

An annual subscription of €10 covers membership, while a monthly charge covers the cost of the wines consumed at each meeting. Further funds are raised by means of a raffle, the profits from which are put towards various trips with a wine theme, and also an annual Christmas Party for members. The Club will be non-profit-making.”

I should think that after the quite passable, in my opinion, one or two euro supermarket wine, your palate is like mine Glyn and would have no way of giving an objective description of what we are sensing. My description might go something like this..."Yeh... tastes nice... fill it up then" ;)

Seriously though it sounds like a good way to spend a few sociable hours. Thanks Ozzie.

We like the 'Torres' wines Ozzie. Are these the same as the 'Toro' wine on the wine club website list, which are described as excellent? If so we may have some good taste then.

Actually, my husband used to go to a wine tasting club and said it was very good. He learnt a lot, even the type of glasses to use. I know they make a difference. When we've been in a bar (Spain & England) and they pour the wine in stubby little glasses, it puts me off (a bit like being served Vodka or gin & Tonic in a silly little wine glass) like they do in Coronation street :D .

The restaurants & bars who serve wine in the correct large glasses, where the wine fills only a quarter or third of the glass go up in my estimation. It may be psychological but I'm sure that the wine taste better. The little Don Carlos bar serves a reasonably good house wine in perfect glassware, which is quite unusual for a bar.

Only if it is served in the correct cups, and none of this "MIF" - milk in first nonsense. Just having a small Lapsung Su Chong as I write this, drinking from a minge vase
