We always enjoy the lovely Portico Mar Restaurant which is in Campomar, a very picturesque area, near Guardamar.

The food is international and is very good with lots of choices. The service is good and friendly. It's a set menu which comes with a drink - half carafe of wine or a beer or soft drink. Evening prices start at 6.00pm. They’re open seven days a week from 12.00-24.00.

Dress is smart/casual and there is a loyalty card scheme, they give you a card with your bill and holes are punched in it. Once you have nine holes indicating nine meals, you get a free meal.

Highly recommended.

I agree with you Jan. the short smiley man called Valery (he's Russian hence the name) seems to be in charge - or if not he's very hard working! - he runs a tight ship to make sure that people aren't kept waiting. The 'punch-holes' have been replaced by an electronic loyalty card but don't worry, they will transfer any old credits over. When you get your bill you now also get a statement setting out the credits which you have acquired.

Just made our bookings for March and May, so will have to encourage the wife for dinner there.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed Glyn. It's a lovely place. Just a pity that a car, or better still a Taxi, is needed to get there!

best meal in the area, but book early

Lovely setting and lovely food!!

We took our son and his girl friend there recently, the food was 1st class as was the attention of the staff
the meal only cost €100 sounds a lot but when you taste the food was worth every penny . will be going the again very soon

It's a lovely restaurant and they do have the set menu (which is cheaper at lunchtime!) with loads of great choices. There is a drink included which is generally ample for me (as I only like a couple of glasses of wine or three with a meal and they bring it in a jug with just enough for me). I suppose it depends how much you like to drink or if you go a-la-Carte as to how much the bill is but we find it reasonably well priced for what we have.

I eat out quite a lot when I am over here (the new cooker will probably look quite pristine for some years to come!) and usually go out to places which do menu del dia, but I do try and fit in a few other places/new places as a treat - and Portico Mar is one of them!

Love Portico Mar, €100 for 4 people sounds good for a special occasion. We took our family out for a meal in Guardamar, 6 of us and I paid €199, nearly fainted when the bill came up!!!!
