We have had a new electric meter installed from Iberdrola. The cupboard is on the side of the road. The engineer told us the door was broken so we contacted Iberdrola and they said that it was our responsibility to do it. Has anybody else heard this??

Yes. On our urbanisation we had several doors blow off in the winds We had to have them replaced ourselves.

I remember some years ago reading about a woman who mounted the pavement & drove her car into an electric meter cupboard demolishing it. Her Electric came from another cupboard so it was only her neighbours affected. The Electic company said it was not their responsiblity, & those affected would have to pay.

Driving around Quesada i have noticed several metal cupboards rusting away badly. i often wonder if those with meters inside realise when the boxes disintergrate that it will be their responsiblity to replace the boxes, at their own expense, & would all, usually 6 or 8 owners chip in, i think not.

The Box with my meter is built into my wall so i try to look after it, paint it with Hammerite etc. But this did not help when my English neighbour, fortunately moved away, used to force the doors open breaking them, rather than phoning Iberdrola, Phone No' is on your Bill, Trying to save himself the small call out fee to unlock & change fuse.

I would recommend Painting & looking after any box that your meter is in, & save yourself a lot of money in the future.
