Good morning everyone,

My wife and I are coming over in 5 weeks on a house hunting trip, we’re looking for a 2 bed and preferably 2 bath retirement home, We’d rather do a private deal than via an estate agent so anything about, please let us know.

Many thanks,

Tim and Therese

Think it depends on how much you want to pay, the villa next to us is with a private landlord, 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms really nice place 165000 euros.

You will get lots of advice and offers of places to view on this forum but have you stayed in the area before, if not then the most sound advice would be to use those 5 weeks as a start to see what areas you like before even thinking of buying property?
It's a big step to take if you are thinking of living in Spain permanently for your retirement. Most people would recommend renting in an area you like the look of or a few areas first. If you are retired now you should have the time to do this and get a real feel if the life style and area is for you. It may seem easy to move to a new life because you will be retired but on the other hand lifeand health can change very quickly, so it's is really advisable to know how you would cope if this happens. By renting and living in an area or few areas could be a nice adventure and then you could make an informed decision to buy a forever home.

There are many happy expats in Spain but on the other hand there are those who for whatever reason would like to go back to the UK but can't afford to. House prices rise in UK but in Spain they do not always rise or don't rise at the same rate.

The idea situation if you really want to make the move is to keep a small Base(bolthole) in the UK. It could be handy for the future or for visiting friends and family and if you don't need it in the later years you have a good investment...better than any savings!

Just a thought.

Hi jan,

Thanks for your reply, It’s been a long held dream of mine(25+years) to have a place in the sun, but we’ve always intended to keep a place in the UK too, and then if for whatever reason living out there permanently is not for us, then it’s always been my intention to keep the place as a holiday bolt hole for the kids and grandkids anyway.

Regards Tim

Just a quick one,

I’ve received a couple of PM’s, I’m not being rude, I have replied, but atm my replies seem to be sitting in my outbox rather than sending, so apologies if it seems as though I’ve not bothered

Thanks Tim

Yes when the member has read them they will go into your sent box.

It's often a good idea to write on your topic that you have sent a PM or reply PM to ****** (whatever member name(s) you have sent to). That way they know to look in their inbox. It's amazing how many people don't look in their inbox even though they would have been notified that they have a message.
