Air con not blowing cold - Help please!

We normally turn on the air con in our bedroom before we go to bed and then turn it off before we turn out the lights. Last night it did not blow cold. It was built in when the Lola townhouse was built 12 or so years ago. It is a TEC model and the extractor unit must be on the roof.
The only thing I know about air cons is how to clean the filters, but the problem is still there.
Any ideas on how to solve the problem or a recommendation for a tradesman who is reliable and charges reasonably? If we can’t solve it, I will pop into Don De tomorrow morning, as they installed a new one in a second bedroom a couple of years ago. I don’t want to leave it due to the heat at the moment!
Many thanks in anticipation for any advice.

We had a problem with our aircon a couple of years ago... we called Steve Birkett... he asked if I had turned it off and waited 5 minutes and turned it on again... I said we had so he came out to look at it... he checked the fluids, he checked the unit..nothing wrong.... then he turned off the unit at the wall..not at the unit or the remote.. it was off for 5 minutes then he turned it on again and it worked fine..and still is.

I felt such a fool--- :D

What did Steve charge me?.... nothing at all...

..that is why so many people recommend him--

Have you checked that you haven’t accidentally put it in the wrong mode (heating, dehumidifier, fan only etc)?
Most aircon units will flash the LEDs in some sort of pattern to tell you what type of problem it’s encountered.

Pete.

It probably needs replacing gassing but if it's over a certain age they don't use the same has anymore so I needed to buy a new unit

Hi ya,

On the remote control there should be a smalll hole which is a reset button, just push it the once and should reset unit to original factory settings.if you have a clock on handset this will need to be corrected.

Fire works we’re good tonight /last night ....morning all!

Air con repair

Our bedroom air con broke down just when we needed it most - in the middle of the heatwave
Thanks to recommendations from this site, I contacted Steve Birkett on Sunday and he visited us at 9am today. Although the unit is quite old, Steve checked the extractor fan on the roof and fitted a new condenser. Everything is fine now.
We are really grateful to Talk Quesada and in particular to Steve Birkett. We have his card and will contact him for any electrical work in the future.
