Is it one of the old foxsat boxes?
If so, it’s probably the PSU capacitors that have died, which is probably something Jpeg could fix in a jiffy.

And what’s the nature of the fault?

Programs recorded and saved lost. Programs set to record are not and menu showing "You don't have any recordings at the moment. We had aprox. 20% of space used when we last used it and then were away on holiday for 2 weeks.

"20% of space could be taken up by the setup files
You need to test the drive to see if it or the Humax has failed. This can be done relatively easily by removing it from the Humax and using a USB adapter to connect it to a PC. If the PC can recognise the drive and read the content (may need a suitable filesystem driver if it's not one the PC can read natively) then you can say the Humax is at fault. If the drive cannot be recognised by the PC regardless of what tools you use then that indicates a drive failure.

But unless you do some sort of testing you will never know.

Our simple HDMI HD Foxsat box is behaving strangely - was looping thro the blue Humax screen APPL etc over and only settling on a programme for a few seconds & then looping again! Have just rebuilt the box and seems to be holding on ITVs, 4's 5's etc but try a BBC HD programme & we are off looping again! Any advice would be appreciated.

I’d start by doing a factory reset and re-initialising (reformatting) the hard drive.

Pete.

Sounds like a rescan is required
How have you rebuilt the box please

Thanks for your replies - just menu - selected the rebuild which was followed by a requirement to rescan - 105 channels came up - not all working & every time we go on BBC2HD the dreaded loop starts - Humax sign APPL & a flick onto BBC2HD the only way to getout of the loop is to try to get the EPG up in that moment and change the channel! 5s 4s ITVs all no problem....
Wondered if BBC had sent a freesat bug down to affect the channels?
Anfy help will be much appreciated.
