Received today from Francisco Lidon (Donapepaonline)

Just thought I would let you know about two thefts from our community in Dona Pepa 2.

The first one, holidaymakers left gate ajar and were in community or their own small back garden and had bag stolen from house, the second is a distraction theft, four people sat on front terrace having lunch. A man, about 25 apologises for bothering them but could they tell him the way to the nearest supermarket, then his phone rings, si, si, etc. they have left back grill unlocked, second man about 20 enters and takes handbag with passport, phone, money etc and leaves via same back exit, they were about 10 ft from where the handbag was on the sofa, They even saw both men walk down the street and then realised bag was missing. People must take more care with locking up etc.

This was on Residentia La Laguna, Calle Gerona.

Were these just isolated incidents, or has anyone heard of any more?

I haven't heard of anything like this for years either Sandra. Let's hope it was an isolated incident.

Far be it for me to say anything like that, Glyn!! However, the chap that they showed on Crimewatch this morning bore an uncanny resemblance to a certain person!!

On the serious side, I already feel that I am "in prison" what with all the window grills etc - so taking even more precautions - nightmare!!:?

Hi Sandra,

The incidents mentioned here seem to have been caused by leaving unattended doors & grills unlocked. Maybe they were holiday-makers and not aware of the normal security measures like locking the door grills. This kind of distraction & opportunist theft can happen anywhere and we wouldn't dream of leaving our front door open in the UK, so as Bamber Gascoine used to say " Don't have nightmares!".
