Delete post button

I would like the ability to delete my old irrelevant posts at my choosing, whether they be sold items or otherwise. There are so many old out of date posts clogging up this site as it is.

Any chance of this happening eds?

Regards

This sounds like a good idea in principle and we had a delete facility/button in the early days but unfortunately it caused problems when members deleted indiscriminately, without thinking about how the topics flowed - sometimes the person who started the topic with a question or interesting observation would delete their comment, leaving a topic with no start and then other members would message saying ' what's all this about' . Many topics have interesting threads that people enjoy reading, and if a topic has posts missing, here and there, it can make these topics disjointed.

If anyone wants their own topic deleted we can do that of course and if a member contacts us to delete a comment they made, we can delete that too (as we always do) and at the same time check that the topic isn't disjointed by random comments related to the deleted post.

We always ask that 'Sold' is placed in the title of all items for sale, and we periodically go through these topics and delete them, but unfortunately not everyone does this.

Any member who messages us with their topic or a post of theirs to delete we always do this asap.

Thanks.

I understand your thinking regarding the deletion of individual comments and can see your point in that respect. I am referring to having the ability to delete posts authored by myself, of which for sale ads is just one type. It would be nice to able to do this without the need to contact you. In addition, there are many posts made by people from years gone by where the information is out of date and no longer relevant, such as addresses to various businesses etc, and where a delete button for the author would come in handy.

It is something i would like to see but if that's something you don't wish to do then fair enough. I don't know what other peoples thoughts are.

Thanks.

It is certainly not a case of 'not wanting to' but if you read our reasons again below it's a case of keeping the forum flowing without loads of gaps here and there spoiling the information for our members.
When anyone asks us to remove any of their own topics/posts/comments, of course we do so asap but at the same time we check that any following comments are not left in mid-air,which may mean we have to also remove them at the same time, which a member if given the delete facility could not do. Please read again:

I suggest you re-read my response to you. Deleting personal comments from others posts would have a effect on the flowing of information within those posts. I agree with that. However, what i am suggesting is being able to delete the posts (or topics if you prefer to call it that) I make/author. If i make a new topic that has a bunch of replies and i delete it due to the info contained within it being out of date etc, this does not interfere with the flow of the info in that topic as the topic has been deleted and no longer exists. Nearly all social media sites / forums have the ability to delete posts if you are the author.

As previously mentioned, there are many posts on this forum such as ones made by people asking the address of a business back in 2014 which has since either shut down or moved premises. And the delete button on ads would be handy too as already discussed. You may wish to withdraw the ad if you no longer wish to sell etc. Surely not giving the users this option increases your workload too?

You should see a delete button (cross) in the top right hand corner on my attached screenshot - let us know if you don't see this.

I think this may have changed recently which is why Jan thought differently.

Hi i have seen this X before (which is no longer visible now) and that allowed me to delete my comments but not my posts. There is currently no way to remove my old posts by myself which is what i requested. Thanks.

AS A NEW MEMBER TO THIS SITE I WAS AMAZED TO SEE POSTS AS FAR BACK AS 1970!!
A REGULAR CLEAN UP OF THIS WONDERFUL SITE WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL.
