Noticed new machine seems to be wanting finger prints & maybe iris info???? Does anyone know what is going on?

Well, when we came through a couple of weeks ago it was the passport in the machine and the iris recognition (same as UK airports) but no fingerprinting.

They were there last year nothing new

Our last two visitors (arrived 09 Sept. and 19 Sept.) just walked off the plane and straight to the baggage hall with no passport checks whatsoever, we however, 06 Sept., queued for the machines.

The delays were caused by travellers not following the machine's prompts not, by the machines. One example was a traveller persistently looking at the passport reader but not the camera.

I have been through that thing at Alicante four times now and it's never worked for me yet. I've had the border guards come up, put the passport in themselves, watch everything and then nothing happens. Didn't work, gave up, waved through. By contrast, I've used the one at Manchester on a number of occasions and had no problems at all.

If you have the old style passport (without the camera sign at bottom of cover) - should have just about all expired by now - they wont work nor will they if you have kids. You should queue up on the left to go through the manual control (or get waved through on occasion). As said above most delays are people putting passport in the wrong way round or looking at friends, security or just about anywhere rather than the screen for facial recognition!!
