Does anyone know why there are now new passport control gates in Alicante departures (near Gate 30)?

Thanks. Been through it now. It seemed to be only UK flights affected today because of where it is positioned so the Brexit preparations may have something to do with is as per the newspaper article. Most went through a manual check, but a few of us tested the automated machines which were a bit erratic. The checks at the gate remained unchanged though, still boarding pass and passport required. It means you can no longer access the Italian coffee place unless you are departing from gates up there (which you don't know till 45 minutes beforehand) so a bit of a shame as we always found it quieter to wait there.
