On Sunday we booked a flight out from Stansted for 2nd week of August and paid £14.99 each for basic flight . . . just looked at same flight today and it is now £96.99 . . . god knows what the price will be if, as expected, Boris & co announce Spanish "quarantine corridor" on Monday . . . ????

Only problem is there are 2 flights scheduled on those days. One of which will be cancelled. I wonder which one???

I had a similar experience. On Saturday the price of Ryanair Bristol to Alicante on 18th July was £16.99. Wanted to weigh the risk so thought about it overnight and booked on Sunday by which time the price was £33...still very cheap. Today the same flight is £159.99!
The encouraging thing is that it presumably means people are increasingly prepared to take a chance, for example that FO advice will change, and come out and spend their money!

Ryanair and all the other airlines are currently operating at a very very limited capacity.

To get back up and running. They'll have to put on more planes.

In order to fill the seats, and going by past experience, to tempt the reluctant traveler, I fully expect Ryanair to announce a mega sale.

From the way they have filled up since Sunday ( about 20% full . . today well over 50%) neither . . . .

The only time I've had that was when I missed a tiny checkbox next to a continue button

I have had that happen if trying to book disabled assistance. The site won't let you complete if they already have their quota of special assistance passengers (PRM) booked. Unfortunately, this is not mentioned anywhere and you go round and round in circles to no avail.
