Ribbon race 9th October

On Sunday 9th October the ribbon race will take place at the Malecón del Soto from 7pm.

For those that haven't seen one, it's a bit like a weird blind date.
First the women that are participating parade in escorted by a band and take seats provided.
All the women wear a sash with their name on.
Then the men that are participating, take it in turns to gallop with their spears to spear a ribbon hanging from a framework.
In practice, the charger is a rusty old bike, and the spears are pencils!
If the rider spears a ribbon - each of which carries the name of one of the women - he goes to claim his prize. i.e. the sash of the corresponding woman plus a kiss, whilst he gives her a bunch of flowers.

Again, anyone can take part of all ages.
Women have to sign on before the 6th October so the towm hall can prepare the sashes etc.
And men can just enter on the day.

And here's some photos I took earlier.
