San Juan 'bonfire' fiestas are coming up soon and the Alicante San Juan 'Bonfires' Fiesta is on the 24th June 2014 and Rosa Tours and David's coaches are doing a coach trip with various pick-up points including Quesada - Details below:
It's a festival to celebrate the summer solstice with a party atmosphere and processions with music and bands going through the town.
Effigies are burnt and fireworks are set off. Also there will be lots of small bonfires on the beach which should make it a spectacular event.

The San Juan 'Bonfires' (Hogueras) Fiesta is tonight in Torrevieja ( 24th June). The Burning (La Cremà), is the culmination of the 'Summer Solstice' festival, which is at midnight.

The celebrations start at 8pm with a children's fiesta and various other events, including a town BBQ, gift-giving and music, up until the main celebration of the bonfires around the town and beach at midnight.

By all accounts it is a spectacular evening and the fire service is there to keep everyone safe. Apparently it can get a bit wet with the fireman dousing the fires with their hoses but that's all part of the fun!

Here's the brochure from the Torrevieja town hall, which shows the list of events for the 24th June 2014 :
