Burglary alarm

Hi,
I have a burglary alarm that I do not use but was originally connected to a central office as part of an annual contract.
The system is still connected (but not working) within the house, but whenever I have an electric power cut an alarm is set off at the control panel. This can be reset but the problem is, if I'm in the UK it will be going off continuously and alerting people passing that the house is vacant.
Does anyone know if there's a way to disconnect the control panel or better still to get the alarm system working independently without me having to take out a new contract with the original suppliers.

Hi all,

Your alarm activated outside probably because once the power is removed the stand by panel battery is low/faulty and needs replacing. The stand by battery should power the whole system for a minimum of 24hrs. Replace the battery and you’ll probably be fine. HOWEVER if the system was monitored you’ll probably need an engineer code to access.
If you could provide details of panel you’ll probably get engineers manual on line no problem.

Happy New Year all !

You can operate your house alarm without paying for the remote monitoring. However you would still have the problem of it going off if you lose you electricity or as in my case if a battery in one of the remote sensors becomes low. This happens whether the alarm is set active or not. If your power failures are due to a problem in the house you could try and have that fixed. If you have a battery failure, it is not often and your alarm will only go off for say 10 mins. A bit of a nuisance for your neighbors though.
