To help combat the loss of trade since Zenia Boulevard opened there will be a free 22 seater minibus going to The Habaneras Centre starting the 1st June and running until 15th September. Full details can be found on the image below including pick up points and times etc. Just click on it to enlarge.

This look very interesting. Thanks for sharing. As Sandra said it would be good to know where the bus actually stops. Possibly the town hall will have a timetable with more details & the actual stops on it - Will have to check next time we are in Quesada.

Once the hook of La Zenia gets you - nowhere else will do.

Hello Ian, Angie & everyone,
A kind neighbour has just given us a copy of the actual timetable and details, from the town hall, of the free bus to Habaneras. There are also the pick up points on there . Not sure if it is exactly the same as the one from the newspaper image above but it does confirm the dates the bus will be running this Summer.
I have attached the pages here - Scroll down for both pages and click to enlarge them for clearer reading:

We used the free bus to Habaneras yesterday and it worked :)
The stop in Quesada is at the arches on the roundabout. There is a little sticker on the poles saying free bus to Habaneras. We got the 11am bus and spent a long afternoon there and came back on the 17.30 bus, although there are earlier ones, up to 13.30, when there is a break for siesta (see above timetable).
It is a 22 seater dark blue mini-bus and is clearly marked with Habaneras all over the sides of the bus.
It appears to be expected that people using the bus buy something from the Habaneras centre, which is understandable, and you may be asked to show a receipt for something on the way back.
All in all we were impressed and will use it again.

Hi Jan, good thinking of going next week, what do they expect you to buy? Does Carrefour count?

Hi Dot,
I wouldn't think so because it's outside the centre but we had a drink in a bar in the Habaneras and luckily I kept the receipt, although he never asked us. Our friend who came back on the 13.30 bus was carrying a few large items she had bought and she wasn't asked, but we definitely saw him asking for something and then looking at receipts that some people were getting out of their bags.

Jan.

PS. If you go maybe you could confirm this for us please.

Hi,
Has anyone used the free bus recently to the Habaneras in Torrevieja? If so, did you get asked for a shopping receipt when returning? We are still not sure what people were showing the bus driver when he asked for what sounded like 'tickets'! We just shuffled on while he was doing this.

This is a photo of the bus stop by the roundabout near the arches, where the bus stops, for anyone wanting to know. Below is the sign on the bus stop post indicating that the free bus stops there.

I havent used the free bus but have just been told by a neighbour that a passenger was asked to get off as they didnt have a shopping receipt. It appears that some people are using the bus to maybe get to work or whatever and the council want to stop this by asking for a shopping receipt as proof etc.
