Hello,

I'm currently in the process of listing our UK house on the market, and we have a general enquiry and just want to know how council tax is measured in and is it paid yearly in Spain?

Is it he amount of bedrooms in the house? Or the plot of land its on or something totally different?!

Thanks in advance,

It has been bugging my nan for quite a while!

IBI is a tax levied by the council and varies greatly from one council to another. It depends on the size of your property, the rateable value (or cadastral value), the location and facilities in place.
You may only pay a couple of hundred euro in one town but the next one along could be as much as 1000 euro or more.
The amount you pay will depend on
1. The build size of the property
2. The classification of the land the property is built on
3. The size of the plot
4. The proximity to services and infrastructure.

When all these factors are taken into account, your property will have a cadastral value, normally about 60 to 70% of the value of your property. They will then issue a "coefficient" of between 0.4 and 1.3% in urban areas and multiply that by the cadastral value to give the IBI.
The tax is collected once a year. In the Rojales area around September each year and the person who owns the property on 1st Jan each year is liable for it.
