Hi Folks

We have returned to our holiday home in Rojales Hills for the first time this year. We have found many dead cockies and, unfortunately, the occasional live one (average of one a day). Has anyone on the site who lives around the Aqua Park noticed an increase in cockies recently? We’ve had the house 20 years and it’s never been this bad

If you haven't been at your house for a while your drains will dry up in sink, toilets etc.where they could come from but couldn't escape as they couldn't eat anything....hence the dead ones.
Some of the live ones may still be hiding.
Spray cockroach spray on the floor before you go to bed. If you don't mop the floor the chemical will stay for the following days.
By walking (the cockroaches) over the sprayed area their feet will burn and they throw themselves on their back to cool their feet. Sweep them up and flush them down the toilet...they will be back with their brothers and sisters.....

I don’t live near you but I am having problems wit the damn roaches like you average once a day night time,
I have made a solution of lemons juiced and put vinegar (white) mixed and put it into a spray bottle and spray kitchen services they hate it, hope it helps Pete.

Morning al :-),

Little tip taught to me by Spanish neighbours, if you leave your house for a while put a little Olive Oil in the sinks and WC’s, it helps stop the water evaporating so the blighters can’t get through. ;-)

Have a nice day all :-)

Mercadona sell a floor cleaner which is an insecticide, don't smell nice but if it helps I don't care. When I've done that I then spray with ORO or Zum BUT do not spray before you go to bed as the smell is awful and you feel like you're the ones being poisioned. Do it before you go out for a few hours and give it time to clear and die down. Oro and Zum are more expensive but well worth it, last for up to a year and I think it's cured it in my house. I also have special little plastic things that fit into the overflow hole, a bit like a top hat with holes in it so its still an overflow but nothing can crawl out of them. I also use a hair/waste collector in the sink holes. Also make sure you empty your waste bins every night. When I see really large kitchen bins for sale I think it would days days to fill that up and you've got all that rotten stuff sitting there, cockroaches and ants will love that.
When the council come around and spray the drain holes the cockroaches tend to flee and find somewhere else normally one of our kitchens.

We have only had one cockroach in the last year.

We don't have mossie screens, we don't put plugs in sinks or top hats.. but we do use ORO.

We walk around the house and spray a line about a meter up from the floor. Then we spray all around the doors and windows and anywhere else we can think of. We also spray across the outside gate and the local drain. It takes just about a tin to do all that, about 5 euros. We also have a little gadget we plug in in the bedroom to deter insects.

The rascals can fly so we are resigned to the odd one that zooms in, but ... one all year.. we can live with that.

Mondo - when you say you spray around the house one metre up from the floor, is this inside or outside please (sorry for being dense). Also, can I move into your house please

I spray Oro across doorways & around the edges of floors etc. (red can 5 euros from Consum). As said before, don't breathe it in. Make sure pets are not in house for at least an hour after spraying.
