My partner left me a few months ago. She took our car which was in her name. Now a company has written to me saying she sold half the property to them. They are insisting I sell my half as well Is that legal? We were only together 9 months. She put nothing into the house. Would welcome comments. Thanks

Was the house registered in joint names by solicitor at time of purchase?
They would be my first port of call !!!

If you legally own half the house the paperwork should show that and you should go see a solicitor no one can make you sell your share .

If there is a new co-owner - What rights does the new 50% owner have?

Wouldn't have thought that was possible without you signing some how? Definitely see a lawyer.

No one can sell there share in a property without the other owners consent, you have a declared interest in the property or should have on your deeds. ,
Thats why you see run down properties around as it's usualy one of the owners won't agree to sell, so there's no moving forward till an agreement is met.
As Bee stated a few posts back contact your local land registry for a small fee can be done on line, to find if that is so, new 50% owner I doubt it, unless it's a company house and the company sold its share? Thers all different scenarios,

If there is a co-owner with 50% , can they move in ? (at least half the time LOL)
I take it they now have a key. What about changing the locks?

Can they block you selling your 50% ?
My thoughts are with you - most distressing time.
