If you feel comfortable with smartphones I would definitely recommend opening a Revolut account.

As it is a British bank your IBAN will be UK based, and as they are an online (insured) bank all of their processes can be done directly from your smartphone (making the whole being abroad situation not as much of an inconvenience as a physical bank)

Their webpage information state you will be using an EU Iban not British

Ah, I missed that.

I believe they changed it to an EU IBAN after the whole Brexit scenario, so indeed you are right.
