Caixabank - closing account from U.K.

Hi - has anyone done this?
We have a non resident account for direct debits and a debit card and would prefer to keep the account open for a couple of weeks after we leave Spain at the end of this month in order to clear funds etc.

We have online banking and all the direct debits will have been stopped but I have read a few stories about having to go into the branch in person to close the account and I don’t want to return to Spain - just to close a bank account.

I will go into branch and ask but just wondered if anyone had done it from the U.K. ?

Thank you.

I have been trying to close my Bankia non resident account since January, they will only accept a visit in person or give Power of Attorney to someone.

Thanks
There could be a glimmer of hope in my case.
I have completely emptied the account although the monthly charges still rack up, my direct debits were moved to Transferwise.
As Bankia and Caixa banks are to merge my Solicitor informs me that anyone who has a negative balance will have their account closed ? In your case it could be all about the timing ?
