Again thanks Paul .I have used my n.wide card at La Caixa bank and that on wed 16/3/22 was the first time i had been charged a fee of 7 euro was always 2 before. that With Wise not having a office in Spain do u think my best bet #

would be to use one of the other fee, free banks you suggest. Im not sure which banks you mean as far as i can see Sabetell or La Caixa dominate.

You can get fee-free online-only accounts at BBVA and Cajamar (Wefferent). You can sign up to either online which should be sufficient for your direct debits. If you want to be able to access a branch, other banks will offer fee-free services if you comply with their conditions such as paying in c. €700 per mth or taking out their home insurance. You would need to check at Caixa or Santander to see if they do this. I have an account at BBVA called Va Contigo where I have to pay in €2500 per quarter. I do this from my Wise account (costing €1,12 per year rather than €150) and then transfer it back out again. I only keep the Spanish account to pay my resident taxes. All my direct debits are on my Wise euro account and I use their card for all purchases in supermarkets, restaurants etc. I also use Wise to transfer sterling from my Nationwide account to Spain when I need it. There are numerous options, it just depends what you feel most comfortable with. I am very much not a cash person.
