Do I have to go into the branch that my account was opened in or will any branch close my account?

Unfortunately you do have to go into the originating bank.

No you don’t have to go into the bank. I did it over the phone, but you have to ensure there is no money in the account. I just transferred the last few cents to my Wise account.

I opened my account in a Costa Del Sol Sabadell branch and closed it in their La Zenia branch.

If you close it in the branch and there is money in the account, do they give that to you there and then? I am going to close my account next week and there is about e800 euros in it. I wonder whether, at 8.30 on Monday morning when I intend to close it, they will have that amount of cash in the branch.

Crikey Lizzy, it’s a BANK! If they haven’t got €800 on a Monday morning then we’re all in trouble! Maybe you could withdraw most of the money over the weekend (ATM withdrawals) and just leave a few euros in the account until you see them Monday?

I've closed two accounts. CAM (as was) at the branch I was registered with and they gave me the money there and then.
The other was Bankinter at a different branch. They asked me to come back in two days time to get the money after they'd checked there were no outstanding payments.

And as Paul M says, if a bank hasn't got 800 euro in then maybe a bank to be avoided.

Santander in the UK. Walked in on Wednesday at 10:30am. Asked for £750 in cash.

They told me they had to order it, and to come back on Friday.

We closed our SAbadell account last June,I transferred the majority to Wise & just left enough in to pay what was owed for the quarterly charges,they then gave me what was left in cash.

I managed to close it last week. Took balance to zero then phoned internet banking and after lots of security account was closed
