I would go into the bank to do it. I expect it all depends if there are direct debits etc on the account.

We closed one years ago in Spain and it was closed on the spot in the branch while we were there but it was before we had set up any direct debits or payments so it was easy. We just changed banks as we had found a better bank for us.

Always take passports and cards with you when doing anything like that. We forgot the passports once, when we wanted to change our branch, and they wouldn't do anything until we brought them in.

They do it there and then. Bankinter, when we closed that account, closed it but gave us the balance after 24 hours in case there were any outstanding payments. CAM bank closed it and gave us the balance straight away.
Both banks gave us a printout of standing orders, direct debits etc. and neither made any charges for closing the account.

That's what happened when we closed one. We only had a small amount in there so they gave us the cash back.

Hi many thanks for that, its something we are going to do in the next month, at least we don't have to give notice.
