Advice please for Health Care.

is anybody able to clear Health care for me please? I am hearing so much conflicting advice. We have bought a house. I am looking for work and my Beloved is self employed and works world wide. The company is registered in UK. We have not attempted Residencia yet. We are paying a lot of money to be seen by English Gp in Benijofer. I have heard conflicting things about sip cards and S1 forms so would like some proper advice. We have an S1 form but neither of us are pensionable age. I also have a 15 year old who is in education. Thank you in advance.

Provided one of you remains a UK tax resident you can transfer your health benefits to Spain using S1 for workers (not to be confused with S1 for pensioners). There is a previous post on this with H MRC telephone number. They send the form to your Spanish address for you to use with your residencia application instead of taking out private medical insurance at a huge cost. Your daughter is entitled to free health care in any event under the Spanish system. I am not however certain what the arrangement is if you are not resident as EHIC is for emergencies only. I suppose private health care would be the answer if you are not intending to become resident as that way you would have cover and not need to transfer your UK benefits.

That’s a little clearer thank you. We have been advised not to apply for Residencia until January as we sold our Uk home this year and will be taxed again if we do Residencia to early? We are going to do Residencia soon, obviously hubby will be non fiscal and I fiscal. So I have correct S1 form filled in and ready so I take with me for Residencia rather than send back to Uk. Sorry for all the questions but hear so many different stories.

I am not sure about tax situation. As far as I understand that is the purpose of the dual taxation agreement so that you don’t pay twice. Any taxes paid in the uk can be offset against spanish taxes. I am not a tax expert so please do not rely on my opinion but it makes sense to me. We are thinking about residencia so I have been through the exercise of speaking to HMRC and can confirm that if you ring them they will confirm the process to you. There are of course requirements which are explained on HMRC website ie you need to work in UK for at least 12 weeks a year.
