Hi, Is the water from the taps drinkable at Lo Crispin or anywhere locally I wonder?
If not what apart from the expensive filter option is there? Is there also, anywhere to buy a water chiller machine and regular (approximately) the 19 litre bottle refills please?

The water in this area is perfectly safe to drink but you may find it a little different. There is nothing wrong with but, like everywhere else, the change may upset you a little to start with. It is also quite hard in this area so a filter is a good idea to soften it up. These are not expensive and you can get a charcoal filter system fitted at your mains inflow for around €120 and the filter will cost around €12 a year to replace.
This will take some of the harshness out of the water and soften out which is great for lowering the scaling in boilers, kettles etc and will also allow the soap to actually lather better when showering.
We simply fill a plastic milk carton (the 2 litre ones) and put it in the fridge to cool it down. As long as we replace the carton after about every 3 fills there is no problem.
You can buy the filter system from any DIY shop (the one on the right going into Los Montesinos is excellent) but you may need a plumber to fit the extra bit of piping between the mains and the meter. Changing the filter is simply turning the water off, turning a screw to relieve the pressure, unhooking the old filter and putting the new one on. Tighten the relief screw and turn the water back on.

If it's just drinking water you want, get a Berkey water filter. They do different sizes depending on how much water you go through.

https://berkey-waterfilters.co.uk (this is just one of many sites and suppliers so shop around for the best deals)

They are pretty decent and remove a lot of the nasties which other filters for sale around here do not. The filters are not cheap but they do last a while. You can also buy add-ons such as filters that will remove any fluoride that's in the water.

DO NOT drink the tap water here (or even in UK) if you value your health. Although if you did, you're not going to keel over straight away but the water here is full of chlorine and who knows what else. Chlorine will damage your thyroid amongst other things.

Speaking from experience, and providing you can afford the electric bill, a good water distiller is the best option for pure clean water. Only after it is cleaned, it is best to re-mineralise by adding a few grains of brown rice or some lemon or something to the water. When you see what's left in the tank after a distiller has run a cycle, you will see what i mean about not drinking tap water. It will put you off for life.

Hope this helps.

Drinking Water

I think that link may be a bit of a myth buster. As said, our simple carbon filter softens the water and we, nor our visitors, have had any problems with the drinking water in this area.
