I emailed Iberdrola to query when we were getting a smart meter as I wish to change to their 8 hour plan. They have come back saying the smart meter is already fitted but the smart grid is not yet deployed in our area and the technicians are improving the area in order to activate it.

Has anyone experienced this or know what the smart grid is?

It’s probably the technology they use to read the meters remotely. I’m guessing that they still have to read the meter manually until the smart grid is installed.

Cheers Pete, I thought much the same. Maybe they need to upgrade the substation to collect the data, hopefully it wont take long.
