PARAFIN HEATERS

Advice wanted re parafin heaters:
I am considering getting one of the latest parafin heaters. Does anyone have experience of these heaters they could pass on. I can only remember the black Valor heaters that stunk the house out, were prone to smoking and drank parafin like it was going out of fashion.
Any advice/thoughts much appreciated. TIA

They are a vast improvement on the old ones, just a whiff of paraffin on start up and shut down, but, you will find gas heaters of the "super ser" type half the price to run.

don't forget that like gas heaters, parafin heaters expel an awful lot of condensation. Make sure that you have adequate ventilation, or perhaps check out the 400 watt panel heaters, cheap to run no condensation and takes up very little space as fixed almost flat to the walls.

Personally, I wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole. A free standing gas heater is a better option, but I wouldn’t use one of those either.
With any non-vented heater, all of the nasty Products of Combustion are released into the house. This includes moisture that causes condensing, but more importantly Carbon Monoxide - which causes death.
Anyone who insists on using a non-vented heater should ensure that there is adequate ventilation - which defeats the object of using the heater - and use a CO alarm.

Pete.

Condensation from parafin heaters on cold floor tiles make for a slippery surface. Hence important to have good ventilation.

use your aircon on warm ,quick fix no hassle ,no more outlay, nothing to store in the warmer months ,no messing with paraffin or gas bottles, not expensive to run.

I’ve used one for about 4 years. Stands in the fireplace. Plugs into the electric system which provides power for the fan and runs the thermostat and timer. Smells a bit on start up and shut down rest of the time no problem. I agree it is more expensive to run than the free standing gas heaters but I find it better. I also think the condensation is less than with the gas heaters
