Hi, just some advice please.

Back in November, I took out a REPSOL contract (just shy of 100€) and received a cylinder with the hardware shop on Calle de Santiago in Doña Pepa. I popped in earlier to exchange as mine had run out and was told that the shop had lost its contract with REPSOL and my contract was not with the shop but REPSOL itself. I contacted REPSOL who state they have none of my details and no contract. I received no paperwork at the time of purchase apart from a regular receipt that I no longer have.

I now have an empty orange cylinder. Would it just be easier to just go to a petrol station or supermarket and start again or should I pursue the original, I´m not too fussed about a few euros, I just want an efficient service.

Just go to a garage or store that have the bottles outside and change for a new one

You can go to any shop that sells Repsol bottles on an exchange basis. I have exchanged one at the shop up C/ Azul some time ago but there may be one nearer to you. I do not have a contract with Repsol.

Many people don't bother with contracts for gas bottles but I believe if one explodes you'd have a fight with the insurance company. I also thought a contract was around 20'is euros plus the cost of the bottle and contents then after that you just pay for a refil

100 euro seems very excessive for a gas cylinder and contract. Normal price is around 50 euro max.
Once you have the bottle you can just change them at any outlet. Quesada Gas by Consum, Don De, Repsol garage in town and the DIY shop by Gama are just some that do the orange ones.

You should have a contract for fixed items which have to be checked every 5 years, like central heating, gas boilers, gas cookers etc but the checks are not necessary on portable items such as gas fires and barbeques but you should check them for wear yourself, especially gas tubes left out in the sun on BBQ.

The other good thing having a contract with Repsol is that they will deliver the bottles to your door.
