Good evening folks,

We purchased our house at the end of November, and the solicitors have been changing over the utilities, can anyone please enlighten us as to what the normal monthly standing charge with Iberdrola is? As our bank had 2 payments taken, €31.38 & €36.49, I’ve emailed our solicitor for some sort of explanation, but thought it’d probably be a good idea to ask on here too,

Sounds about right to me ....2 bed apartment last bill 31 euros but that is on night and day rate used to be about 40 euros before I changed

Thanks for the reply, I probably should have said, apart from picking up the keys early December, and we didn’t stay there, the house has been totally unoccupied, and I made sure to turn the electricity off at the Main fuse before we left, that’s why I’m questioning the amounts?

Standing charge, meter rental and IVA I should imagine.

Perhaps I'm being a bit thick, but surely they should be the same amount, if the house isn't being used?

Ours is empty too ....might be more billing days than previous month

It's been explained several times on here.
You are charged a potencia (power) charge depending on what you are contracted for. Normally, nowadays, you will have 5.75 Kw and you are charged a daily rate for that power.
Example, per Kw is 14 cents a day (ish). You are then charged 5.75 x 0.14 or about 80 cents per day. On top of that, there is tax at 21%, the rental of the electricity meter and so on.
So you have a monthly charge of around 24 euro plus tax which takes it up to about 29 euro and then the rental of the meter on top so about 30 euro a month before you even switch anything on.
Then, of course, each month is not an exact 30 or 31 days. Sometimes the billing period is as low as 26 days and others as high as 36 days.
My last bill was for 32 days and consisted of 34 euro for the electricity and 35 euro for providing the power, rental of meter, IVA and other taxes so a total of 69 euro and only half for the actual electricity.
Prices per unit will be different depending on the contract you have (day/night tariff etc) but the charge for providing the power will be the same per day.
You may also find there is an insurance premium and green tax premium added.
You'll also get a shock when you get your water bill because the standing charges will cost more than the amount of water you use.
