Hi that's strange I used to use it for many years and never had a problem but can't say I have used it for a long time it was a freeware when ai used it.

It's still freeware and I have it on my laptop and not had a problem but I'll delete it to be safe . Can anyone recommend a replacement

You do not have to do without just make sure you have the latest version but better off without it as it slows down your computer a great deal

I checked and it's not CC cleaner I have . I now use Glary utilities

Update 9/22/2017: Avast representative has made the following statement:
“We believe that these users are safe now as our investigation indicates we were able to disarm the threat before it was able to do any harm. We estimate that 2.27 million users had the affected software installed on 32-bit Windows machines.”
The estimated users impacted is far less than the original two billion impacted.
