Hi we have just bought a villa in Quesada and there is a dish on the roof that we don’t know what it is for. Could someone help in letting us know what it is for?
Thanks you.

It looks like a microwave dish for the internet. There will probably be a large mast within line of site with a circular aerial that looks a bit like a bass drum. That is the transmitter/receiver for the internet signals.

This isn’t a great way to get connected to the internet, as it probably won’t be too fast and is subject to atmospheric interference- you’ll get a very poor signal when it’s raining heavily.
Better to go for fibre optic if it’s available on your street. Faster, and probably cheaper too.

Pete.

As you can see by the comments, none of us as are very impressed with this form of Internet and phone connection, anyway get the stuff that's connected by preferably fibre if not your phone line believe you me it's much better than the paella dish(ha nice one) on the roof think we,ve all wasted money on those, and before you waste money on tv systems ask around what's best in your area or see the guy who gets recommended on here Paul tv techie

You should also have been left a small power supply for it by the previous owner and a router,

Don’t be too disappointed with some of the comments. The majority of people are on aerial line of site systems, like yours. Fiber Optic cables have a very small concentration area on some urbanization’s and we would all like to have it. I applied for it, but no-one around me want it, so they are not coming up our street with the fiber. This is a greater problem when houses around you are holiday homes/rental properties and have little interest in paying extra for fiber.
If you are lucky you may get 10 Megs on your dish, I get 10 with Telfy and very reliable.

I pay €25 per month including tax for a 100mbps synchronous (same speed for uploads and downloads) fibre optic connection. Probably cheaper than what most people are paying for their slower and less reliable dish or ADSL connections.

I agree that many homes don't yet have access to fibre, but there seems to be a big fibre roll-out in many areas, especially where there are a large concentration of properties on urbanisations.

Pete.
