Meganet - El Raso area

Anyone in the El Raso have any experience of Meganet now that they've launched their 200mb broadband service in the area?

I just wondered how it works...there doesn't seem to have been any disruption or "digging up the roads". Do they effectively run a system similar to the "FTTC" system in the UK, and pick up the broadband signal via an aerial?

I don't actually have Meganet, I have Scansat fibre, but several Suppliers including these 2 and DVBLab have been cabling up El Raso since this time last year. They have used the existing Telecomms ducts already in the roads around the Urb, so very little digging and have installed their control gear on some of the big roundabouts and in some spare Community areas I believe.

Its not FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) but FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) so you actually get the fibre directly into the house unlike most of the UK. So the only limiting factor to speed is the kit attached to either end of the fibre, hence being able to offer 200Mb.

One limiting factor is that whilst the Urb is fibred up, some if not all suppliers have to connect up to the wider world via microwave/wireless as they don't yet have the fibre infrastructure in place to connect to El Raso.

Thank you for that, Babu.

With FTTP, how do they run the connection from the telecomms ducts to the house?

Hi Dottyp53

Cant speak for El Raso but we have Meganet in Quesada and here there was small duct work installed at the time of build from cabinet to and inside the house, so no surface cabling.

As Avoncliffe says virtually all builds came with ducting preinstalled.
Don't know which build type you have but ours is built round the communal pool/gardens area and the tv/sat/phone etc. supply is within the communal area with smallish supply boxes at each property and there is a duct that comes into the house under the stairs into a distribution box.
The Lagomar Villa build type for example each have a supply box built into their front wall by the road and a duct runs from that into the villa already.

Thank you Babu. Didn't know about the duct, but that all makes sense now...!
