Channel 4 HD

Anyone looking for Channel 4 HD will find that it's disappeared from Freesat. So have the Ch 4 catch up functions.
Apparently it was costing them too much. Ch4 SD and Ch4+1 still on there, though.

That's quite poor when everyone's looking to make the jump to 4K - Freesat downgrades. Disappointing.

However - cannot most Freesat branded boxes run a 'non Freesat scan' as 4HD is on 11126 V 22000 on free to air or at least it was 2 minutes ago when checked.

Not got a non-Freesat box, though. It's a Humax one and I'm quite happy with the SD channel. Missing the catch up, though.
Will Freesat be able to handle 4K?
Must admit, I have a Freesat tuner built into my TV (Samsung) and the picture quality on that is far superior to the Humax box. Problems are I can't record a Freesat channel whilst watching a Spanish TDT channel (or vice versa) and the EPG on the Samsung freesat is diabolical and very difficult to read with a pale blue background and small writing (or I'm getting older). So we use the Humax one and dip out on a bit of quality but not enough to make much of a difference and get a much better EPG.
I use a dongle to record the TDT channels and a WD HD to record from the Humax.

Its a spat between C4 and ITV/BBC who run Freesat. Freesat were putting up the price charged to C4 to transmit in HD and C4 didn't want to pay it. C4 has to transmit on Freesat by Law but not in HD so they stopped it. Will probably be sorted at some point . . .

In what way is the picture quality poor? Is it pixelated and breaking-up, or is is lower resolution or not as “bright” as when using the tuner in the TV?

Also, I think that what Paul was saying is that in your Humax box’s menu you should have an option to watch non-Freesat channels, which may give you the HD version back.

Pete.

No, not poor, just not as good as that on the Samsung. The Samsung is 4K and upscales the picture and is absolutely brilliant. On the Humax it's not as good as it upscales to 1080 only but splitting hairs a little.
Yes, you can go for non Freeview channels on the Humax but you have to try and remember the channels which is 4 numbers and the EPG doesn't come in on that at all.
I was just pointing out the Freesat Ch4 HD has been removed.

Most European boxes are not Freesat - that is the UK only supplied brand. Catch up or any of the online services do not work in Spain anyway - not without a VPN router attached (Humax Freesat/Sky).

Channel 4 HD is available free to air - so those with generic HD satellite receivers, will not have noticed any difference.

Those using UK boxes in Spain, no doubt will notice.

I have Sky HD and the latest Samsung 1bit panel - not sure I can see any difference between 1080P and the upscaled 4K - does not look like real 4K in my eyes, not in comparison with the content on the PS4 Pro of which some is native 4K and you can see a difference.

As we are 15+ years into HD and we struggle to get a handful of free HD channels, I can't think that it will be anytime soon that we'll get a lot of 4K content, unless you pay through the nose for it.
