Windows Media Player error

I have an Aquaris XPro phone and have successfully transferred videos to my computer previously.
However I now keep getting the following message: "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file."
I've checked settings both on the phone and computer and none have changed and I can't find any more info as to what the problem might be.

Has anyone got any ideas or advice as to what to do next as I use my phone all the time now as a camera and video recorder.

thanks
Angie

You don't say what version of Windows you're running, but if it's 7 or 10 (it may work for 8.0/8.1 as well) try this:

Go to Control Panel and select Troubleshooting. On the left hand side of the screen select "View All" and scroll down to "Windows Media Player Settings". Click "Next" and you'll probably get the option to "Apply This Fix".
If it doesn't fix the problem then the "View detailed information" link will give you a clue as to the cause of the problem.

Pete.

Just an obvious one, have you got enough room on your device for this extra file?

Thanks Pete, I'll try your suggestion.
There's plenty of space on the phone, it has 64GB

Went to download VLC and McAfee said this was a very risky website with potential viruses and spyware. Any advice?

Did you try playing one of the movie files after applying the fix?

Pete.

hi Pete, yes, with same result. I've also downloaded VCL and they won't play on this either! I'm totally at a loss as to what to do next. There are no settings changed on the phone as there are none to really change regarding recording, and I've checked other videos previously recorded on the phone and they still play on the computer, however none of my recent videos will play on the computer. They start with VID_ and I'm pretty sure they didn't use to but I may be wrong.
I've cheked the phone's manual but that really only tells you how to record and file settings etc - pretty much just press the button!
This is driving me crazy, previously I recorded, transferred and watched, I just don't know what has changed!
