Currently renting a house in Los Balcones, Torrevieja until we buy one on the other side of the salt lake.

Jeez, the 3G signal here is appallingly bad. Im hoping thats because this is relatively newly built and they havent got round to putting a cell tower up to boost the coverage. In 35 years using the internet ive never had had such a dismal, slow connection and unreliable phone signal. I hope its a bit better on the east side of the salt lake.

Correct me if im wrong, but i assume fibre is but a distant dream in the Costa?

Plenty of places with fibre in the area. I live in Villamartin and have a 100mbps up/down fibre connection that costs just €25 per month with unlimited doenload/uploads. It’s fibre all the way to the router, no copper in sight.
You should ask your neighbours (and admin company/president if you’re on an urbanisation) about what companies have installed fibre in your area.

I wouldn’t hold your breath about 3/4G improving, or 5G making an appearance any time soon.
Spanish houses seem good at blocking mobile phone signals, I think the reinforced concrete plays a part in that. If you get a better signal outside then you could always look at installing a booster - just make sure you choose the right type that operates on the correct frequency for the provider that you’re using.

I’m with Simyo and live Quesada. 4g is brilliant all round this area and beyond.

hello peterknight, I believe I have same internet as you from same company. However they cant get it to work on 100mbs on WIFI, only using a direct link by ethernet cable can I get the advertised speed. Can you confirm you get 100mbps on WIFI.

I’m with Ole.
You won’t get anywhere near 100mbps with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If you have a router or wireless access point that uses 5GHz, and are connecting a mobile device that also supports 5GHz then you’ll often manage to hit the 80 or 90mbps mark when using speedtest. But, 5GHz signals don't penetrate walls and floors as well as 2.4GHz signals, so you’ll need to be in the same room as your router to get the best performance.
A wired Ethernet connection is by far the best solution if you need maximum bandwidth.

However, you should bear bear mind that very few situations require a device to be able to connect at 100mbps. The real advantage of having a connection that offers that bandwidth is multiple devices can be used at the same time, without them all slowing down because they’re maxing-out the connection.

Think of it in the same terms as a water or electrical supply in to your house. If water pressure is low and you’re in the shower then someone turns on a tap elsewhere in the house you’ll know about it, but if you have good water pressure then you probably won’t notice. The same with electrical supply. If you have a high contracted current then you can turn lots of appliances on at the same time without tripping the meter. You’ll probably never have one single appliance that uses the full contracted current, but multiple appliances at the same time can soon hit the limit if that limit is fairly low.
