Kodi we tend to avoid nowdays for the very reasons you state, is simply unreliable, technical and does not do the job in a stable manner. Anything with multiple apps promising free access, generally don´t last for too long. Kodi also has secondary issues with too many people on servers ' just not the way to go about online TV viewing in a stable manner.
For the basics Freesat - FTA at 1.4 dish is enough for most, there are a few weak channels such as ITV HD, but even on a 1.9 (which we also have) is weak, so little benefit in going from 1.4 to 1.9 nowdays.
