Throttling is a common problem here in the UK IsPs know you are streaming by the IP stored in the router
VPN is commonly used here. The Mag has probily had its day designed as a box to deliver IPTV only and as Paul says many more andriod boxes ect, perform better,Also be aware many clone mags exist. In Ron's case they is a buffering control in settings, advance settings, then buffering can increase to say 5 see if it helps. He could also try a firestick see how that run they of course are wireless

I've decided to call it a day on this thread - as far as I can see, i've covered everything.

Ron seems quite happy at the moment with his drilling into the MAG and is working - seems to be quite lucky that his ISP seems to have pulled their socks up at the same time by coincidence, because drilling holes fixes buffering about as much as blessing your box. 5 years of seeing MAG boxes, dealing with informir, testing boxes - but I clearly the advice off a couple of home users is taken with more belief/accuracy?

It's pretty clear to me he either doesn't want my advice or believes, so I am not going to waste further time recommending specific equipment or advice, to someone I've already wasted over an hour typing free advice, to generally be treated as an IT idiot. I don't feel there's any point me offering advice further to Ron as from my perspective, doesn't feel welcome or appreciated.

I do know exactly what the best equipment is 'as of the moment' as I test new boxes most weeks, so see all the usability functions and even get sent boxes by manufacturers for bug tests for free. I've used, tested and deliberately broken more boxes than probably anyone else (certainly locally) i'm aware of, perhaps I learned something along the way?

Paul, you should know by now that a lot of ex-pats become experts at many things when moving to Spain. Just because some can change a plug, in Spain they think they are electricians, other who have painted their home in the UK come to Spain and become time served decorators etc, so it comes as no surprise that someone who does a bit of DIY tech stuff would also now be an IT expert.
I wouldn't take it to heart, it is what it is.

Thank you Steve. Much appreciated. That did bring a smile of recognition to my face.

I used to use MAG boxes, but as Paul has said, you can now do a lot more with a more powerful Android Box.

I guess it all depends on requirements, for core IPTV MAG may still do the job OK.... I run Nvidia Shield Pro devices now which are expensive, but very powerful. Firestick 4K is a cheaper, but still good option, but I tend to go for a wired connection rather than WiFi, particularly if you want to watch a lot of 4k movies.

Sound advice for all devices, WiFi should only be used where there is no practical alternative.

A great many problems would instantly disappear if folks heeded that.
