It is not until something goes wrong that you find out stuff about how it should work, thanks to you guys.
For instance, that a mobile phone camera will see the infra red signal. Who knew? Not me, that's for sure.
Anyway, for now I'm going with the suggestion of repeatedly pressing the input source button, which does the job.
