Hi
We use a mag box for IPTV and I’m wanting to link up a sound bar via optical input.

Is it best to link the sound bar to the mag box or to the tv

Lynn

We have ours to the TV rather than magbox>sound bar but only because we use the TV for Netflix/Prime etc and flick between those and the magbox. If using solely the magbox then I don't see there would be much difference either way?

Check your sound bar for a second optical inlet. We have had ours for 6 years and we have 2, 1 for the mag box and one for the TV. We also have the CD player attached with phono leads.

Out of interest, what benefit is there going direct from magbox to soundbar?

For one you get a much better sound quality with the multiple speakers and sub woofer in the sounddbar, and 2 you can alter the lip sync if the program on the MAG box is slightly off.

Prior to installing the sound bar my mag box remote was used to control the volume, the volume controls on the TV remote made no difference to sound levels. So when I first installed the sound bar I didn’t switch over the TV speakers to external and after trying to use mag box, tv and sound bar remotes I couldn’t see much difference in sound quality, that’s why I thought I was doing something wrong.
So I’ve now connected sound bar to the TV (on external speakers) I don’t appear to have any lip sync problems so I’m happy to leave it connected that way.
Out of interest if I was to connect to the mag box would I have to go into the mag box audio settings and set that to zero.

Interesting.

As I say, I use the soundbar connected through the TV and with the magbox connected to the TV I still have the benefits of the better sound quality using the magbox. Never noticed any lip sync issues but now my eyes will be peeled!

Usually, the best option if possible is to connect any external speaker system or amplifier direct to the TV, then TV optical or HDMI audio out into soundbar or amp. Turn off TV speakers in the menu and configure to external speakers/output.

If of course using a TV without optical out - then make sure any soundbar or amplifier has HDMI audio pass-through - which most do now.
