I was in a bar yesterday in Marquesa comparing strength of phone and Internet.

Our friends are using Iphones; we use android. They were getting 4 bars we were getting less than 1. Both using Lobster.

Does that mean iPhones get better signals than android or is there some other reason?

Is that due to

Oddly enough the number of bars is not an accurate measure of connectivity, only that u have a signal. And as for the device, it all depends on what processor it has built in, how old or modern the device is, whether it is up to date with any possible software. And then the speed of how well the device works at, as in how quick it opens new internet pages, is influenced by how much storage space it has built in, versus how much room has been taken up by stuff that has been downloaded onto it. So, the short answer to your question is, no.

So 1 bar or 4 bars - both show same signal strength?

It is of course also determined by how good the antenna is in the device also if the device has a case, that can also make a slight difference too.

Also comparing an iphone with an android phone is not quite a 'like for like' - there's a vast difference between a 100 euros of budget android phone and a 1500 euro one from Samsung - all the antennas and specs will be different.

Recognising specs will be different should we expect an IPhone to get a better signal.

no you will only get a better signal if the network you are tied to is sending a better signal in the area you are in
I wish I could get a signal no matter how low in the area I live as I have to go out on to the main road and drive a kilometre at least until I can get any signal at all and that from all the networks I have tried them all ,Before you sign a contract with a network it is always a good idea to check with neighbours as to which network they all use and find out which is the best
Also top range Samsungs have the best internet capabilities that any other phones apart from Satellite phones
