Smart TV Sky Go and Old Laptop

Hi all
Not the best combination.

My laptop only has a VGA output and something that looks like a wonky hdmi. My new TV only has hdmi and AV.

I've tried a VGA to hdmi cable. I've tried a VGA to hdmi converter. Neither worked. Can you get a VGA to av cable?

Or Google suggests casting from my phone but I couldn't get that to work.

Can anyone help??

Thanks

Casting can sometimes be a bit hit and miss and can also be device dependent but can usually be got working.

I cast from both a Samsung phone and an Android tablet to my Samsung TV and it works just fine.

In some cases a Chromecast may be the best solution, I have one of those (a +/- 10 years old original) for my bedroom TV which is not Smart.

Thanks JPEG. I'll send you a photo when the cricket has finished and before the football starts.

Is this something you could help with?

Excellent! The strange looking hdmi port is actually in the docking station we use for the laptop when we're using sky go. I'll send you a photo shortly!

Sort of like a Firestick,Google is your friend.

If you do end up on HDMI you can get up to 10m length cables so won't necessarily need to have the laptop virtually tethered to the TV, you can go even further with an inline connector or 1 in 2 out active splitter.

I run my IPTV box into two separate rooms like that,10m to one room and the splitter then another 10m on from that to the other.

You might be able to use an app on your smart TV - bypassing a lot of these headaches.

How old is your smart TV - Samsung ? LG?
