WiFi tip for optimum performance.

If your router offers a 5g WiFi option (nothing to do with 5g mobile phones!) then you really should be using it.

5g simply refers to the 5gHz frequency band in which it operates and that frequency not only provides better penetration than the normal 2.4gHz frequency band but is also able to carry far more data resulting, in most cases, in both a further reaching and faster connection.

For instance, on my mobile phone 2.4g WiFi yields speeds of ~85mbps down and up whilst 5g produces ~350mbps, and that's with it going through a VPN.

5g also reaches further into the recesses of my remote garage where 2.4g barely penetrates at all.

A similar comparison on an oldish laptop gives ~48mbps on 2.4gHz and 250mbps down/150 up on 5g.

An even older Android tablet, one of the very first to feature 5g WiFi, gives ~35mbps on 2.4g but 65/95 on 5g.

Give it a try, simply choose the 5g option if in the list of available connections and sign into it with the same password as the normal connection.

I get the exact opposite 2.4 is usable signal all over my house and it is a big house whereas 5g will drop off within 5 metres from the router and Telfy have been out many times and changed routers and reset but they keep telling me that it is correct and 2.4 penertrates much better than 2.4 which is confirmed by the router manufacturer
Just waiting to the new Firestick max and wifi 6 as the router has wifi 6
My signal comes from a small dish as all line of sight here in the Catral campo

Every circumstance will be different and there are too many variables to possibly list however as a broad rule of thumb, and for those in 'regular' rather than 'big' houses, 5g should out perform 2.4gHz.

Be aware and give it a whirl is all I'm really saying because in my experience the vast majority seem to have little or no idea that 5g exists or it they do then what it is or what advantage there may be to using it.

For those needing far reaching broadband connectivity, you can buy what’s referred to as a “mesh” network. This gives a single SSID (the name of your router) and seamlessly floats between multiple little hubs about the property. I have one in the Uk which made the world of difference, and I’m about to install one in Spain for my security cameras.
2.5ghz from my experience reached further than 5ghz, but 5ghz is a lot faster. Some older devices can’t use 5ghz which is limitation in the wireless card/adapter in the device itself. A mesh as I suggest above solved a lot of headaches and drop offs
