I have a 1.4 mt satellite dish and I have lost a lot of channels. If I buy a new hd receiver box
will I be able to retrieve the missing channels?

Maybe!

You may need to upgrade to a bigger dish.

Channel 799 is only available to freesat box users.
Best way is to check Channel 5...on 105 on box sky and Freesat boxes.
If this is C5HD, no need to change boxe.
If this is C5 SD, then you will need a HD receiver.

But loss of channels could also be, if you are not use a Sky HD or Freesat HD box which do channel updates automatically, that you "generic" receiver need to be rescanned to pick up the channels on their new frequencies.

But it can also mean your 1.4m dish may not be the right size, or not aligned correctly, or not using the best LNB, or the LNB is not aligned correctly...

All Ariva boxes I know are HD, so i doubt you need a new box.
And as your box is not a Freesat or Sky box, then whenever channels change frequencies, you need to do a scan to pick up the channels on their new frequencies. This Ariva box does not do it automatically.
So your loss of channels is simply that your box has not been updated.
So do a new channel scan.

If you are missing the BBC HD's on a 1.4-metre dish - there's a specialist imported LNB - which is one of the only LNBs we've seen pull the signal when not previously available - on the offset (oval 1.4) dish.

This of recent times seems to be the issue with many on these dish types. As long as your receiver had HD and a blind scan facility - most channels should be available. But dish may need a new LNB & a re-tune won't do any harm if not done for a while.
