Just had my first (hopefully my last) dose of gout in my foot, the most painful thing I have experienced in a long time.I am after suggestions from fellow sufferers if they know of any medication, herbal or otherwise, which I can take to hopefully prevent any further bouts of this dreaded gout. I am aware of the foods to avoid i.e. Red meat, wine, cheese, dark chocolate etc, but any sensible suggestions for prevention would be much appreciated.

My husband gets Gout occasionally and always uses Naproxen or similar (from doctor in UK but over the counter in Spain) It's the only thing that clears it. He gets to know the feeling now when it's about to rear it's ugly head and he pre-empts it by taking the tablets and then it's not so bad and clears up quicker. Luckily he hasn't had it for a year or so but it is nasty.
I had shingles and can only relate it to that as it's a nerve pain...the worst ever!

No alchahol is one of the preventives, so sad

Tell me about it Rodt, but what has to be has to be, and no alcohol outways the pain any day , but as it's Christmas I might risk a wee one!
