Dogs on trains

I have some friends who live near Toulouse in France but have a house here in Quesada for the winter.
They have a dog. I know that dogs are allowed on our local trains here with a muzzle or in a crate but does anyone know the rules for the high speed train, which they would probably get to get down to Alicante?
