Looking to buy a house in an older part of Quesada which has a septic tank, does anyone know what the procedure is to have this removed and be connected to mains water. I think it is pretty old as the property is in need of alot of work.

I think you mean connected to mains sewerage,do you have mains water?
you would need council approval and the necessary licences, from your Mains water supplier and town hall,and then a pot load of money for the work, connecting to a main sewer is no cheap task, then you would pay dirty water disposal on your bill, wereas at the moment you should only be paying for water used, as with a septic tank you are suppose to have it emptied of solids regularly and pay the emptier, does it have a soakaway system?

It needn't be such a trauma, it depends on the circumstances.
Is there sewage pipes on the street where the house is located?
How far from the road is the house?

I have heard that the house should be connected to the main sewage system before it can be sold.
Is this a private sale or through an estate agent ?

Many country houses both here and in the UK have septic tanks. This doesn’t affect conditions of sale. I lived in a house in England that had a septic tank, and am in the process of buying a house here which has one. It isn’t a problem, you just need to be aware of what you are putting down your loo (no wipes, for example) and be prepared to have it emptied occasionally. You really aren’t aware of it most of the time. On the plus side, as Glassman says, you will not be paying for waste water disposal. I imagine the cost of connection to mains drainage would be eye watering, and may not even be possible.

Provided the sewage pipes in the street run past the house, the process is very simple. You will need a plumber/builder to cap off the ceptic tank connects and dig and lay pipe to the boundary of the property. When that is done, the water company will come and connect from the pavement into the main sewer. It's some years since I had it done at that time the water company charged about 800€ for their part of the work, so if it's straight forward, you should be looking at about a thousand for the water company plus what ever the builder charges you. A decent builder will tie everything up with the water company. It's a straight forward thing to do and aside from putting your hand in your pocket there are no hoops to jump through. Good luck.

It maybe worth if you can get the lid off the main drain nearest to your house and checking to see if there is a pipe comings out of the main down pipe heading towards you property ...as in our case ..the previous owners had paid to have the pipe from this to the outside wall of the property ..they were doing the house next door at the time ..so was cheaper...Sorry don't no price...all we have to do is connect from the house to the pipe at the outside wall.
