Free Tv,,, IPTV v's Free to Air Satellite

Good morning to all,
I would be most grateful if someone would be so kind and advise me.
I have never been a great Tv fan or really kept up to date with the fast moving world of technology.
If my laptop goes wrong, and an update or the 'turn off, turn on' button does not work, I am at the mercy of my grandchild !
With regards to Tv, I have had for many years, A sat dish big enough to feed the 5000 sitting in my garden, and a free view satellite box,,, It works fine, I get to watch Holly Oaks and Country file etc and never seems to go wrong.
So what is IPTV, and is at simple as buying a 'Box' plugging it in to my router Ethernet connection, plug in the hdmi to the tv and downloading an app,
Will I be able to watch the BBC and channel 4 etc at the press of a button, just like I do at the moment.
Kind regards
Betty
