We had that with the toilet door, we had to unscrew the brass plate and turn the handle with pliers, the spring had gone

Happened to us-trapping Hubby in the downstairs loo! :-) In the end I had to chisel around the latch to be able to lever it back. So a little bit of damage to the frame, but with some filler and a coat of paint it's hardly noticeable.

Give Dave a ring: 0034 669 60 98 22 - he's an all rounder and a qualified electrician. He's helped us a lot with small repair jobs. He's also based in Quesada.

all sorted thanks managed to get it open then my friends partner came and repaired and brought a new part for the middle so all good thanks for all your advice. Good job we weren't locked in bedroom as we wouldn't have got out no tools or phone quite scarey realized no way of getting out what if there was a fire

You might need to check all your door handles. After our incident, we found a bedroom one to be going the same way, so replaced that one too.

No escape route from the bedroom in a fire is one of my biggest worries whenever I stay at our apartment. We have a small fire extinguisher out in the hallway and have smoke alarms but I am actually thinking of getting the bedroom window converted to a single door and small opening window so we can escape out on to the patio.
