I think Michelle is referring to “nenuco” which is aqua de colonia and can be found in the baby isle of all the supermarkets. It does offer some protection but the best treatment I have found to treat the bites is alcohol gel. Again sold everywhere for less than a euro. Make sure its at least 70 % strength. Simply scratch the bite and apply a decent amount. It will sting for a few seconds but dries them up very quickly and reduces the itching. You can repeat on each bite several times a day.

I have used listerene ( mouthwash) put it in a spray bottle, and spray yourself and surrounding areas. Works a treat. Also buy anti mosquito plants. Gets rid of the little bliters

I use the juice from a fresh aloe vera plant leaf directly onto the bite.

A lot of american’s recommend buying the little sheets that you put into your tumble drier, rub the sheet over your body and hope for the best.
I spent so much money years ago trying to prevent being bitten by mosquitos but had no luck. I bought special soap..rubbish, took garlic tablets..rubbish, creams, , sprays, everything available and still I got badly bitten. I went home covered in great big welts on my legs and even had a bite on my eye lid.
Been back many, many times and have managed to remain unbitten. I ordered deer online and read about the tumbledrier tip. Anything is worth a try. Tell your wife not to use perfume or indeed fragrances creams as this may attract them..who knows?

I found rubbing fresh lemon into the bite helped take away the itching. The aloe suggestion above also works.

When using the lemon, get a chunk of it and really rub it into the bite so the juice gets absorbed into the skin properly. Worked for me. I had several bites on one foot one night and was climbing up the wall with the itching. I experimented with the lemon and it brought much needed relief.

As a preventive measure you could try getting some pure lavender (maybe other scents like lemon etc work too) essential oil and sticking several drops in one of those ceramic candle heater thingy's and let that waft around the area. Tried this the other night when sat out and never got bitten, but maybe there wasn't many about.

I’ve been using the agua de colonia for some years now. I spray it all over. It has a nice fresh smell too. It’s very cheap. Worth a try.
