Could anyone give advice on car prices ,do they display prices and if so can you negotiate with the dealers. Also old or new ,which is better value.

Of course you can negotiate on price and also try to get a few extras thrown in.
The latest car I bought, I negotiated a price with a dealer in Elche, then I went to a dealer in Alicante and got a €3000 further discount plus an extra 2 year manufacturer´s warranty and a full-size spare wheel too.
Go to a larger dealer and be prepared to walk away if they´re not giving some ground.
As far as second hand is concerned, the dealer prices I see are crazy. I´d buy privately for much better value.

Decide on a sensible figure that you are prepared to spend.
Do you want new, demonstrator or used?
Do you actually have a clue about the workings of a car or could you be sold a pup?
You could buy privately and be lucky or buy from a dealership with a guarantee.
The choice is yours.
We wanted to buy a car earlier this year as we were sick and fed up with the hirecar companies. I bought a notebook and we visited all the dealerships on the Avenue de Valencia in Torrevieja and recorded everything we were offered as I could never rely on my memory. On advice,we even went to a Elche but found that a lot if these dealerships are owned by the dame company so prices are the same.
We dealt with Renault/ Dacia and found the professionalism superior to many of the other dealerships visited.
If you are a resident in Spain, you will be eligible to use the finance on offer in every garage. We are not so had to pay without the help of finance. We settled on a Sandero Stepway which has so many extra included in the price..sat.nav, rear reversing alarms, cruise control, Bluetooth ..music, ‘phone etc., taxed and on the road for €11,600 as far as I remember. We could have gone for the basic Sandero for €9,400 or there abouts.
We are more than happy with our choice of car and would recommend it highly to anyone thinking about buying a new car and getting a 3 year guarantee thrown into the deal. I used to have a Renault Laguna and this car drives so like it only difference,it is manufactured in Romania and produced cheaper there than if it had come from Leyland...sadly but there it is.
Do your homework and if you buy new, it should last you for years and years!

Apart from on here, theres acouple of Facebook Group for cars for private sale in the area, i just bought a little cheap runaround to get to the shops in. The hidden cost, is the cost of transferring the ownership to you, in the Uk, you just send the V5 off, not in spain! Here you emply a Gestor who has to do the complicated paperwork and inform Trafico, and then relieves you of a couple of hundred euros for the privelige.

personally ive never paid more than £2000 for a car, ever. I buy cheapo ones, run them 2-3 years and scrap them when the repair/mot bill exceeds £500. Look at it like this; drive a new car home , youve just lost £500. Sell it three years later you just lost another £3000 minimum. and you cant g'tee itll be anymore reliable than a second hand one. Cars for me are just a tool to get from A to B. they are otherwise an expensive waste of money.

New cars in Spain hold their value much more than in the UK, that’s why second hand cars are so expensive.
